Instituto Cervantes Library
Historical Restoration

The intervention preserves the original architectural typology characteristic of late-19th-century Paris, maintaining the building's volumetric composition, spatial qualities, and artistic features.

Developed in collaboration with Sanahuja and Partners, the project involves the renovation and functional upgrading of the Biblioteca Octavio Paz, part of the Instituto Cervantes in Paris, bringing the building into alignment with contemporary standards of safety, accessibility, and functionality.

Originally built in 1883 by architect Paul Dechard, the heritage-protected townhouse is composed of two volumes organized around a service courtyard accessed through a historic carriage passage. The rehabilitation reinterprets the building as a contemporary library, expanding reading areas, introducing new spaces for educational use, improving circulation and access, and integrating updated technical systems, while respecting its architectural and patrimonial value.
